If you haven`t tried a Portobello mushroom burger you really need to give it a try. It`s definitely one of those foods that you will be pleasantly surprised by the flavor. They don`t have a strong flavor just a nice, pleasant, earthy taste. I was hesitant at first too but now I have to make one for everyone in the family. Well almost everyone. There is still one little boy that is not open to trying it. As an added bonus, these mushrooms are very healthy for you (see attached link Interesting facts about the health benefits of a Portobello Mushroom!).
- 4 Portobello Mushroom Caps
- ¼ cup olive oil
- salt and pepper
- Pre-heat oven to 400F. Prepare mushrooms by first removing the steams and using a fork to gently remove the gills. Brush each side with olive oil and sprinkle each side with salt and pepper.
- Line a baking sheet with tin foil. Place the mushroom caps gill-side down and cut an X on the top side of each of them. Place into the oven for 10 minutes. Remove from oven and turn over and cook for another 10 minutes.
- *mushrooms can vary in size; larger mushrooms may need to be cooked for 15 minutes per side.
